Elderflower Champagne Cocktail

This cocktail tastes like vacation – not an actual place, but an idea of one. It took shape on a hazy Sunday evening, spun out of the gauzy August heat and a wistful wish to be far away.
As Amanda and I sipped cool drinks and untangled the end of summer, we pieced together our ideal place. Somewhere in southern France, it has vineyards, of course, and baguettes and a bicycle. Armfuls of flowers and heavy copper saucepans. Gardens and brambles and baskets of fruit.
Our story intertwined with our drinks — champagne stirred with St-Germain, a delicate French liqueur of elderflower blossoms. It tastes of pear and lychee and lemon, the sweetness cut by the bubbles and cool cucumber.
The starry white flowers are said to be picked in the Alps and gathered by bike. It seems too conveniently quaint to be true, but no matter. Like our idyllic chateau in the French countryside, the image itself is enough.
Elderflower Champagne Cocktail
Fill a tumbler with ice. Fill three-quarters of the glass with dry champagne or prosecco. Add thinly sliced cucumber and fresh mint. Top off with St-Germain.

Anything that tastes like vacation has to be good in my book. I’ve had St Germain mixed into other drinks but Ive never had it by itself so I’m having a hard time picturing this one.
O this looks fantastic. I love the photo Liz. The way that little stream behaves with the little dent is great. Looks incredibly fresh!
Great action shot! Lovely, cool colors.
What a great photo. I made some elderberry syrup this year. I wonder, if I can use that instead of the liqueur…
Love the pic!

I’ve recently fallen hard for cocktails with cucumbers in them. And I find the whole idea of Elderflower to be mesmerizing. I can imagine this would be a brilliant combination!
Totally agree. A drink like this evokes a memory, be it a trip or night on the porch with a good friend. Love the crisp flavors and great picture!
And here it is! You are in such better shape photo and lighting wise I can hardly believe you learned anything today, and still, I’m excited to see what takes shape when you’ve applied anything you might have picked up. Such a pleasure to meet you. Cheers!
Rena

We chose a staycation for spring break and I’m thinking that this will just add to our cation however I think I’ll have to wait for the snow to melt and the elderflowers to bloom or go find some St.-Germain. Thank you for sharing.
YUM! Can’t wait to try this.
I am anxious to try this!
I have had this liquor before at a hotel in Downtown San Jose, Ca. It was delicious, it also had champagne. I can’t wait to try this one out! It looks very refreshing! Thanks for the recipe, I am sharing on my Facebook page!
In Europe, we mix prossecco, elderflower syrup, ice, a few mint leaves, and a few lemon slices and call it “Hugo”. The trend came from Italy (northern region) about 2 years ago. I’m addicted to it
Totally delicious…
